I am pro-life, I
have been for as long as I can remember. Though my opinions on
abortion in particular have changed over the years, I still consider
myself pro-life. The reason is simply that I prefer life to death in
any situation. I have expressed this in past articles, but here and
now I will fully address my positions on this topic. Please be aware
this may get dark or disturbing in some parts or examples. Reader
discretion is advised.
I think abortion is
murder. This, for many years was my one point of agreement with
christian conservative types. I thought of abortion as murder and
thought that was enough to support the banning of it. Though there
are many forms of murder. Like bashing a babies head in with a brick,
Form of murder, though different than abortion no one would disagree.
It is more brutal, bloody and outlawing it would not overall increase
death rates. I’ll explain. When people feel a need to get an
abortion, the legality of it will not change that. So if it is
illegal it would push these people to the street, where best case
scenario they meet with an MD who lost his license due to alcoholism.
Or worst case scenario they put a coat hanger, where coat hangers
should never go. This is the best argument that “pro-choose”
types have. It really is rock solid. When I first heard it expressed
I thought, “well yea but, well yea but, shit that’s actually a
pretty good point. Like rock solid. See if I consider abortion
murder, and people are going to dangerous situations to get an
abortion done, then we have a very high chance of 2 deaths, because
if you get an abortion on the street or with a coat hanger, the
abortion will likely be a success, because if the mother dies the
fetus aint surviving. And we end up with 2 deaths, where as we would
have just had one had the abortion been, legal, regulated, and
therefore safe.
That being said I
despise abortion. I wish it never happened, and this is why I support
top notch sexual education being taught in all schools, widely
available, high quality, dirt cheap contraceptives, and the funding
of planned parenthood. I’m talking non-bias science based sex
education, morning after pills being available at every corner drug
store for no more than 2 bucks a pop, and increasing, fairly
drastically the funding of planned parenthood. Too many pro-lifers
oppose all of these things, these things that will lower abortion
rates (and there by death rates) which makes me think these things
are opposed most likely due to religious dogma rather than an actual
preference for life.
Let us consider
planned parenthood, the evil murderous abortion clinic, which does
about three percent abortions, and 97 percent PLANNING PARENTHOOD. It
is right there in the name. Most of what planned parent hood does is
help younger parents prepare and PLAN for parenthood. Defund this and
abortion rates are bound to increase.
So abortion isn’t
the only issue related to this topic. Suicide is another big one. So
what about suicide? Well I think suicide is a delusion of sorts. What
I mean is I don’t think anyone actually wants to die. The survival
instincts of virtually every living thing should prove that. So
people who are suicidal should receive help, and we should do
everything we can to keep them alive, and help them be content with
it. Assisted suicide, or more appropriately, euthanasia, is
different. In the sense that most of these people don’t actually
“want to die”, they know that they will suffer unavoidably and
then die inevitably. From there it is perfectly reasonable to want to
skip that first step. However offer these people a cure all, and they
will take that, because they don’t “want to die”, they just
want to skip the unavoidable suffering.
So in conclusion I
will talk about regulation (at least very broadly). In the case of
euthanasia, I think it’s fairly simple, like I said above in the
case of unavoidable suffering followed by inevitable death, than it
should be an option. Now this effecting ones ability to consent, is
possible, and that would have to be figured out by experts on a case
by case basis. In the case of suicide, It should not be criminalized,
but addressed as a legitimate mental health issue, but not just
allowed, view it as a delusion, not a genuine desire. Now about
abortion, again it should be legal. Safety precautions obviously
figured out by experts. And fetal viability the “cut-off” point.
Now there is no medical consensus on the exact point of fetal
viability. But when ever the cut-off point is induced labor should
become an option. Now this could potentially void any strict abortion
restriction, like “heart beat bills”. Induced labor would
essentially be abortion at that point. So if that was a law, that
would make sure, one way or another, an unequipped mother to be,
could eliminate the pregnancy.
